Caring for your Guinea Pig
For generations, the guinea pig has been a much loved children's pet
and there can be few people who have gone through their childhood
without owning or desiring to own one of these charming little animals.
The popularity of guinea pigs, or cavies as they are sometimes called,
is easy to understand; they are docile, trusting and easy to handle;
they rarely bite, do not emit unpleasant smells and are easy and
inexpensive to keep.
 Above all, they are furry and cuddly, with large
appealing eyes - the ideal attributes to bring out the maternal
instincts in almost anybody.
 The keeping of small animals as
pets by children is extremely educational; not only does it teach them
care and responsibility for a living thing which must rely upon them
exclusively for its welfare, but it may also open up a whole new range
of respect and interest in the natural world.
